What technologies are covered by digital dentistry?
- Intraoral Scanners
- Desktop Scanners
- Milling Machines
- Photogrammetry Scanners
- Facial Scanners
- Dental Furnaces
- Extractors
- Cad/Cam software
Intraoral Scanners
You can create precise 3D digital impressions of a patients teeth and gums, even scan a full arch in 2-5 minutes. You ensure a much more comfortable experience for the patient, no more messy impressions, communication is better with the patient with them having more understanding of any proposed treatment plan.
If you run a dental practice this should probably be the first thing you consider when thinking about going digital. More information on intraoral scanners can be found here.
We offer a range of intraoral scanners and have years of experience working with dentists and we offer full training and support. You can see our range of scanners here, but why not just give us a call and have a chat.
Desktop Scanners
A dental desktop scanner allows dental technicians to place a model inside the scanner and start a scan which will then, using Cad/Cam software generate a 3D model ready for design.
There are two ways to create this digital file, either the dentist scans the patient using an intraoral scanner or the dentist takes a conventional impression and sends that model to the lab.
Desktop scanners are much faster and more accurate than traditional methods which in the end can mean cost savings.
There are a number of desktop scanner brands and models on the market, and it can be difficult to know where to start. Give us a call and we can talk you through your options.
Milling Machines
Digital dental milling machines are advanced tools used mostly in dental labs (sometimes in dental practices) to create precise dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, veneers, and dentures from various materials. These machines are accurate, efficient and versatile and a must for any dental lab wanting to go down the digital route.
There are though a lot of these machines on the market and it can be difficult to decide which one is going to be best for your needs.
Your best bet is to give us a call and we will talk you through everything you need to consider before making any commitments.
But if you want to view the milling machines we offer you can see them here.

How to find the right advice when considering digital dentistry for your lab or clinic
- Talk to a range of different companies
- Be sure the product providers understand your needs and requirements, are they interested in you?
- Don’t decide based on price alone
- Avoid companies using high pressure sales tactics
- How much experience do they have? Check their reviews
Do you trust the person you are talking to?
If you are considering investing in any new technology, of any kind, it is important to find a company that you can trust, one that you instinctively feel is giving you the best advice and isn’t just trying to make a quick sale.
Are they interested in you and your company?
Look out for someone who asks you lots of questions about your current set-up, what machines you have, what type of work you focus on, the experience of your staff and your plans for the future, someone that seems truly interested in finding out as much as they can about you. They might ask you what you are hoping to achieve, what expectations you have, what advice you have already received. Do they talk to you in a way you can understand, do they make sense to you, or do you feel more confused than when you started?
